MOTORISTS using the A127 are set for two weeks of intermittent disruption as the long-awaited footbridge at Kent Elms junction is installed.

Southend Council announced on its Facebook page there will be overnight closures from today from 7.30pm to 6.30am at the busy junction in Leigh.

Footbridge supplier, Nusteel Structures Ltd, will construct the footbridge in stages:

 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻-𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

• Tuesday, May 7 to Wednesday May 8 for the installation of side ramps

• Monday, May 13 for the installation of platforms and top stairs as well as painting over the carriageway

• Thursday, May 16 for painting over the carriageway

• Potential Friday, May 17 as contingency to cover installation delays

• Thursday, May 9 to Friday, May 10 for the installation of side ramps

𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

• Saturday, May 11 to install the bridge span.

Diversions will be in operation and clearly signposted. Work to the footbridge will continue beyond these two weeks but will be carried out during the day and will not involve lane closures. The footbridge is expected to open from May 31.

A council spokesman said: "These closures are necessary in order for the footbridge to be constructed safely.

"We appreciate that the A127 is an important thoroughfare and have timed the work to take place overnight in order to minimise disruption to motorists."
