A COLCHESTER man hopes to showcase the town after he was made the vice president of a national association.

Matt Eaton, who is a member of the Colchester Colne Round Table, has been elected to the position on the National Association of Round Table Great Britain and Ireland at the Round Table National Conference.

The association is the umbrella body for Round Table clubs for men aged 18 to 45 across the country.

He said: “The support and trust shown in me in my election to vice president is phenomenal.

“This is the beginning of a three-year commitment for me, as the vice president automatically becomes president next year.

“I am starting a journey to lead Round Table to grow our current Tables and open new ones across the UK.

“Recently, we have had a revival of our fortunes as membership is growing and our sense of purpose is restored.

“Our confidence is back and I will build on this to ensure we thrive.”

As part of his new role Mr Eaton will be helping clubs and helping with their fundraising events up and down the country.

Mr Eaton added: “The core values of Round Table are as relevant now as they were in 1927 when the organisation was established.

“We offer an opportunity for young men to make lasting friendships, experience new things and to make a real difference in their community.

“Working hand-in-hand with our sister organisation Ladies Circle, I want to offer young men and women the opportunity to join the Round Table family to build lasting friendships and serve the community through charitable fundraising.”

Mr Eaton said he also hopes to showcase Colchester during his time in office.

“As a result of my election, I will be the National President of Round Table from May 2020,” he said.

“One of the key events in the Round Table calendar is the National Presidents Ball, which is hosted by the home county and tends to attract hundreds of people from across the globe.

“Additionally, Round Table members like to visit other clubs and we expect many Round Table visitors to Colchester and Essex over the next two years.”
