The second May bank holiday is here.

And with nice weather on the cards there will be plenty of reasons to get out and about.

So whether you a planning to relax or what something more adventurous here are some events taking place across the three days.

Bandstand Concert: The Lisa Graham Duo

Free concert on Colchester Castle Park's Victorian Bandstand.

Saturday from 3pm to 5pm. Free.

Mersea Island Food, Drink & Leisure Festival

Saturday and Sunday 11am to 5pm. Admission free.

There is a wealth of entertainment to keep you occupied with a music marque and free craft activities and workshops for kids.

The festival gives wine lovers and real ale fans a treat. They can enjoy loads of samples and find out how to match foods with different wines and beers for maximum flavour from both plate and glass.

There is everything from smoked foods and fresh fish and meat to ice-cream, cakes and preserves.

There is also a host of exhibitors.

Great Horkesley Village Scarecrow Trail

The village scarecrow trail will take place over the bank holiday and May half term.

This year’s theme is Children’s Storybooks.

Anyone can purchase a map for £1 to follow the trail anytime during the weekend and half term week, and buying a map will enable you to vote for your favourite scarecrows and also enter a free prize draw to win £50.

During the trail week, maps will be available from Blue Owl, The Wine Centre and The Yew Tree as well as other places.

Scarecrows will be visible on the trail from 9am to 4pm daily from Saturday.

'Bug Hotel' Rebuild Scavenger Hunt

Marks Hall Gardens and Arboretum, Saturday until June 2 (closed bank holiday Monday) 10am to 4.30pm.

The Hall's Bug Hotel is key for providing shelter for insects and encourages important pollinators - and youngsters can take part in a challenge to help create it.

Little ones can collect information from the admission kiosk and go on a hunt around the Arboretum to collect items for our new big hotel.

Return the items to the visitor centre where you will receive your certificate.

Normal admission applies.

Greystock Festival

Wivenhoe, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 11pm.

The family festival will have free entry, free kid's activities, a food court, drinks and more than 20 artists performing across two days.

Bures Open Gardens 2019

More than 20 village gardens open including the school, station and Ferriers Barn.

Plant sales, refreshments, sculptures, art and music in some gardens.

It takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.

There will be lunches on the Common from 12 noon until 2pm and cream teas at the church from 2-5pm.

There is a cake and book stall and art exhibition in St. Mary's Church.

Proceeds to go to St. Mary's Church, St.Helena & St.Nicholas Hospices.

A Night of Music, St Botolph's Church

This is a joint concert with the Colchester Military Wives Choir, The Mixed Choir Amici ,Okinawa, Japan and the Bao-Lai Junior High School Chorus, Taiwan.

It takes place from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Bohemian Rhapsody at the Firefly Pop-up cinema

Enjoy cinema under the stars when a pop-up venue comes to Dedham Vale Vineyard on Saturday.

Bohemian Rhapsody will be shown and each ticket includes a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink.

There is a fully stocked bar with our wonderful wine and a delicious BBQ.

Doors open at 7.30pm, film starts approx 9.30pm to 9.45pm dependent on sunset times.

Jousting! – Knights of Royal England

On Sunday from 10am to 5pm at Hedingham Castle.

The ever exciting and popular Knights of Royal England return to Hedingham, recreate a classic Tourney in front of the Keep.

An awesome spectacle of chivalry, hand to hand combat, mounted challenges and dark deeds.

Surrounding it all will be a bustling arena with craft stalls, a range of food and a host of entertainment.

The Norfolk Longbowmen will be demonstrating the art of archery and there will be musicians, donkey rides, a maypole and coconut shies.

Music & Mezze, The Minories

On Sunday the Flavour Room will offer a Middle Eastern inspired menu including mezze breakfast from 10am-12pm served with fresh bread and lunch of mezze platters, vegan curries, vegan sausage rolls and sweet treats from 12pm onwards.

The outdoor bar will be serving a selection of ales and ciders, Pimms, rum punch and soft drinks.

Open Day at Boxted Airfield Museum

It takes place on Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Visit the new B26 Marauder aircraft exhibit - the only example in the UK.

There is also history of the airfield from 1941 until 1960s.

Entry is £3 for adults and free for kids under 16.

Seaside Revival Day, Clacton

On Sunday the event starts at 10am on the West Greensward.

The ambitious retro event will take over the greensward until 5pm and promises ‘a bucket load of good old-fashioned fun’ for all those looking to relive the great British seaside experience.

Free children's activities, Punch & Judy, history fair and Blackwater Fair.

A packed performance programme designed to appeal to everyone from 4 to 104, showcases music, dance, theatre and comedy.

Britain’s only professional singing Pierrot troupe, The New Follies, will feature alongside cockney singalongs, escapologists and seaside spectaculars from Princes Theatre Youth Group, West Cliff Theatre Youth Group and Clacton’s Mad About Theatre Company.

Transport Extravaganza, Chappel

The event at the East Anglian Railway Museum takes place from 10am on Sunday and Monday.

You can soak up the atmosphere and fest your eyes on some great classic cars, vintage motorbikes and modern head turners when there will be one hundred classic vehicles on show.

You can ride on steam trains and vintage buses all day long for free and the Braintree & Halstead Model Railway Club will have their layouts open for viewing.

Tudor Re-enactment, Layer Marney Tower

You can meet the surgeon barber, who can cut your hair, or amputate your arm at this historic themed event.

There is also the armourer who will show off his armour and arrows and the herbalists who will offer cures for your ailments.

Also on hand are musicians, basket makers and spinners.

It takes place on Sunday and Monday from 11am to 5pm.

Open Gardens at The Hall, Tendring

There is magnificent gardens, music, dance, wildlife and craft stalls on offer.

Also available for people to peruse are classic cars, children's activities and a photo competition.

There will be refreshment and a beer tent with free parking and a dogs on a lead welcome.

Open from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday and Monday.

Bank Holiday Jazz Afternoon Tea

The event at Wivenhoe House takes place from 12pm on Monday.

Guests will be seated alfresco overlooking the sunken lawn and beautiful parkland grounds, where the traditional handmade prosecco afternoon tea will be served.

There will be music from The Good Times Jazz Band who play traditional jazz at its best – performed with humour and pizzazz.

The afternoon tea will include a glass of Prosecco, a selection of finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, a selection of homemade cakes and a pot of loose leaf tea or cafetiere of fresh coffee.
