Tributes paid to popular and "down to earth" businessman Glen Fawcett

Glen Fawcett, who was the chief executive officer of Colchester’s Concurrent Technologies, died earlier this month whilst undergoing treatment for glioblastoma, a kind of brain cancer.

Despite his diagnosis earlier this year, Mr Fawcett had continued to visit the company’s base in Newcomen Way, Colchester, to keep in touch with colleagues and friends.

He insisted he was keen to attend the firm’s annual general meeting this month, however, he died unexpectedly on May 7.

A spokesman for Concurrent Technologies paid tribute to mr Fawcett.

He said: “Glen never forgot his Lancashire roots and was a down to earth people person.

“He made a point of talking to everyone and excelled at coming up with amusing anecdotes and interesting facts.

“He had many favourite topics including Burnley Football Club, famous people, inventions, science and technology and especially embedded computer products.

“He was extremely dedicated, had an amazing eye for detail and was a charismatic and energetic leader.”

Mr Fawcett, who was 63 and lived in Great Bromley, joined Concurrent Technologies in 1985 as technical director and he was involved in some of the company’s early hardware designs.

He became managing director two years later and became the public face of the company at shareholder and trade events across the country.

Mr Fawcett’s daughter, Kathryn, has set up a fundraising page in order to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity in his memory.

On it she states: “In his honour, I hope that we can all show these same qualities to remember dad and make a difference to the lives of thousands of people in the future.

“We hope that one day the money raised will bring a cure to this devastating illness.”

Mr Fawcett’s funeral will take place at Colchester Crematorium on Monday, June 10, between 11.45am and 12.45pm.
