Travellers have been spotted pitching up at Gunners Park in Shoebury.

It's believed to be the same group which were moved on from the Gas Works car park in Eastern Esplanade, Southend, where residents reported seeing around 20 caravans on site.

A spokesperson for Southend Council said: "Following the issue of section 61 notices last night by Essex Police, travellers left gasworks site this morning and entered Gunners Park car park.

"We can confirm that height restriction barriers that we have there were locked and secure last night and also this morning.

"When council officers got to the site this morning, locks for the height restriction barrier had been removed and are missing.

"Whilst we already have measures in place at key locations such as bollards, fencing and height restriction barriers, we are reviewing with Essex Police and of course has to be in context of maintaining general accessibility and openness for local people, businesses and visitors."

Essex Police and their traveller unit were on the site at Gunners Park, and implemented a further section 61 notice that required the travellers to vacate the car park site by 3pm.

It's believed that the travellers have now moved to the green on St Mary The Virgin Parish Church, near to ASDA on Frobisher Way, Shoebury.
