A POLICE officer was attacked after giving chase to suspected drink drivers.
Essex Police says three men were arrested after the incident, which took place late last night.
Officers were called out to Galleys Corner, Braintree, around 11.45pm following reports of a drink driver and searched for a Vauxhall Vivaro van.
Despite finding the vehicle, the officers' request for the driver behind the wheel to stop were ignored and they then gave chase along the A120, heading towards Colchester.
The van was pursued to Old Road, Coggeshall, where the three occupants got out and ran off.
The officers gave chase and were soon able to arrest the trio.
An officer was assaulted while detaining one of the men but was unhurt.

A 28-year-old man from the Coggeshall area was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving, failing to stop when directed, failing to provide a breath test, driving without insurance and taking a vehicle without the ownerโs consent.
A 36-year-old man from the Coggeshall area was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle.
They remain in custody for questioning.
A 42-year-old man from the Coggeshall area was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed and theft of a vehicle. He was later released without charge.
