A NEW nursery could be built on the controversial Dunton Fields estate.

Families were sent a letter by Essex County Council about the plans alongside an invitation to take part in an online survey and attend an exhibition.

The exhibition is being held on Thursday, June 13 and will give residents the chance to view the proposed plans for the nursery.

The proposed plans state that the nursery and children’s centre will hold 56 places for children up to four years old and will include a kitchen, toilets and administrative areas.

External play areas and an on-site car park will also be provided.

The nursery will be situated on both Roedean Crescent and Warwick Crescent, part of the Dunton Fields estate, which caused uproar in 2012 when 450 homes were built on the green belt.

As part of the planning permission for the estate, land was reserved for an educational site; the early years centre will serve the Dunton Fields population.

At the time of the construction of the 450 homes, residents raised concerns about the impact of the new homes.

Councillors raised further concerns that education and health services in nearby Laindon would not be able to cope with the development.

Mr Scarola confirmed that he will be consulting leader of Basildon council, Gavin Callaghan, in the upcoming days, to discuss the impact the new nursery will have on residents and other schools nearby.

Mr Henry, councillor for Laindon park, added: “There’s a need for early years education across the borough. New nurseries should open the scope for parents and give them more choice.”
