A COUNTRYSIDE road will close for more than a month to allow repairs to be carried out on a bridge.

Essex Highways will close part of Daw Street, near Finchingfield, while workmen carry out reconstruction work on Sculpins Bridge.

The bridge, which runs over the River Pant, needs to have increased protection from erosion and workman will also carry out work on the surrounding river embankment.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “In order support the works, which will involve the use of heavy machinery and equipment that will be manoeuvred on the highway, a full-time road closure will be needed at the bridge.

“This will ensure the protection of the workforce and the public for the duration of the works.”

Work will begin on Monday and highways bosses say the road will re-open on Friday, July 26.

Advance warning notices will be put on site and clear diversion signs in place.

Pedestrian access along Daw Street will be available throughout the works.

Essex Highways say residents will be kept up to date on the scheme.
