Leigh Art Trail 2019... and this year it’s all about the kids!

Leigh Broadway was transformed with bunting and venue windows were bursting with colour for the 23rd art trail in the town.

This year’s event will showcase the artwork of 66 artists across 52 different venues in Leigh ranging from painted skateboards, illustrations and quirky paintings to pottery and ceramics.

Shops, cafés and railway stations became pop-up galleries for the day, with the community very much at the heart of the event which will end on Saturday.

This year included a children’s art trail –CAT – which saw ten ‘selfie stations’ of different cat cut-outs.

Children and families were also able to get stuck into the fun and had the chance to pick up some free artwork while on the trail, and get creative with some cat colouring sheets.

A primary school exhibition also showcased hundreds of children’s artwork at St Pierre School. All of the children’s pieces have been entered into the ‘Landscapes of Leigh’ competition.

Wendy Scotland, chairman of Leigh Art Trail, said: “What a fantastic turnout for our 23rd trail. It was so lovely to see the children using the selfie stations and enjoying the first Cats trail.

“There were so many lovely comments. There’s plenty left to do throughout the week with our closing picnic in Leigh Library Gardens on Sunday.”

Jadie Oberholzer who organised the cat trail, the primary school exhibition and competition ‘Landscape of Leigh’, said: “There has been a phenomenal response with over 800 pieces of Leigh pupils’ art on display at Saint Pierre School.

“It has been a tremendous start to the Art Trail this weekend with the children so excited and pleased to see their art on display.”
