CLACTON Golf Club's ladies played a singles stableford competition.

The winner was Lin Euston with 32 points, on countback from Gill Wilson.

Third place went to Ann Wright, with 30 points.

Clacton's ladies' Harris Bowl team travelled to Chelmsford to play their second league match of the season.

The team fought hard in windy conditions, with persistent rain showers.

Up against tough opponents, the final score was a 5-0 defeat.

Clacton's next match is at home next Friday (June 28) against Belfairs.

The team was Katy Yates, Fiona Cope, team captain Sonja Strutt, Brenda Lord and Lin Euston.

The juniors' Michael Goodwin Cup was played on Saturday.

It was appropriately won by Henry Goodwin, Michael's son, with 38 points. Harvey Bell came second with 36 points and James Wright was third, on countback, with 35 points.

The men’s John Day team started their season playing at home against a strong Crondon Park team.

The format for the competition is nine players playing singles matchplay.

Clacton’s strong front order gave them a lead with wins from Billy Crowe, Jim Kirkpatrick, Steve Tunnell and Nick Smith.

Crondon Park fought back strongly and won the next three matches, making a close and exciting finish.

Ray Justice and Bruce Watson prevailed to win their matches and secure a 6-3 win.

Clacton now enter the quarter-finals and wait to hear of their opponents.

The men’s competition on Sunday was for the St Helena Hospice Salver.

Ninety-eight competitors entered the medal event.

John Garrad carded a fine 67 to win the salver, with Clayton Jeffrey coming second, on countback from Jiwan Rai, both with 68.

Twelve twos were made on the day.
