Detective Superintendent Ian Hunter, head of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “We continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident and are in the early stages however at this time we believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."

He added a scene watch was in place and members of the public would see an increased police presence while investigations continued.

Next door neighbour Alan Hughes, 71, said he was 'shocked' and didn’t hear anything but was texted by another Lytton Road neighbour, adding: “I jumped out of bed and looked out the window. I spoke with a police woman at the cordon and she said she couldn’t say anything but there was ‘nothing to worry about’”

He added it was 'shocking' and had spoken to a woman who lived in the same building as the incident, which is believed to be divided into two separate homes, and she had also not heard anything during the incident.

Oxford Mail:

The Jolly Postboys landlord Drew Brammer said a murder investigation was ‘the last thing you expect’ in Florence Park, adding: “There used to be problems but now it’s very much a family community, the most serious crime we tend to have is kids abandoning Mobikes."

Tony Legend, 74, who lives on the other side of Lytton Road, said his dog had woken him at 5am but he had not seen anything and was surprised by the seriousness of the incident.

Oxford Mail:

He said: "This is a real community, we look out for each other. I've lived here for over 40 years and if anything it has got more safe since we moved in."

A 31-year-old woman, who did not want to named, said: “I have an allotment nearby at Elder Stubbs. It’s worrying, especially that it’s a woman who has died. It's very sad.”
