A DAY of top quality music is lined up in the Vale of Clwyd this weekend.

It has been a hugely successful Ruthin Festival week and the highlight of the event takes place this Saturday, June 29.

On this day, the Top of Town event will take place on St Peter's Square, with the entertainment starting at 12.30pm.

The artists this year include major bands such as Bryn Fon a’r Band, Candelas, Band Chwech, Skariad and Bwncath, in addition to local artists such as Cor y Porthmyn, Cor Ysgol Pen Barras and Fuchsia Jones.

The voluntary committee that organises the festival is very much looking to the Top of Town event, which is as always on the town square.

Ruthin Festival chairman Gwion Tomos said: "We have some great artists lined up for this year on the Top of Town, along with a children and youth area in the grounds of St Peter’s Church and the area between the town clock and the post office.

"The festival bar will be serving people at the top of Market Street with every penny going towards future festivals, and a new addition this year is a cocktail and gin bar operated by On the Hill Restaurant."

The Denbighshire Youth Brass Band will kick things off at 12.30pm, followed by NEW Sinfonia (1pm), Cor Ysgol Pen Barras (1.30), Fuchsia Jones (1.50), Cor y Porthmyn (2.10), Ellis Derby (2.30) and Joey Collins (3pm).

Bwncath take to the stage at 3.30pm, with Skariad following them at 4.20pm and Alffa / Band Chwech at 5.10pm.

Candelas provide the entertainment at 6pm, with Bryn Fon a'r Band on stage at 7pm.

Entry is £5 per adult, and there is a glass ban in place on the square throughout the day.
