Fire engulfed a closed seafront pub overnight - for the second time in less than a week.

Four fire crews were seen at The Foresters Arms pub, in Marine Parade, at roughly 10.30pm last night.

It is believed they were on the scene for several hours fighting the blaze.

It is the second time in a matter of days that the fire service have been called to the pub, after it was set on fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It has been confirmed that the first fire was an arson attack.

The pub only closed on June 9 after it was threatened with legal action by developers, The Inner London Group.

The pub, and neighbouring businesses, are set to be demolished to make way for the major Marine Plaza development - consisting of more than 800 homes.

At the start of the week, director Larry Fenttimen, told the Echo he was due to meet contractors at the site today, with the hope that demolition could start as early as next week.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters were once again called to the scene of a fire in a derelict public house last night.

"The public house, which crews were first called to in the early hours of Saturday morning, was well alight when firefighters arrived.

"Firefighters used an Aerial Ladder Platform to allow them to spray water on the building from height.

"Crews managed to extinguish the fire by 11.55pm. An investigation to confirm the cause will take place today."
