Life is sweet for Colchester’s Georgia Box.

Since bursting on to the music scene, becoming something of a internet sensation, she’s begun meticulously carving out a career, which is only going to grow with the release of her latest single.

Georgia is the 24-year-old rising star from Colchester whose talents aren’t just limited to music and singing.

She is also a pro when it comes to football (playing as a striker in the FA Women’s National League and is one of her previous club's - Billericay Town - all-time top goal scorers).

A social media prodigy, Georgia boasts a devoted following of more than 500,000 and more than 13 million views on Facebook alone.

Her success began when she started posting mash-ups, MC battles, covers and original twists on some of the world’s biggest hits.

Georgia says: “When I left college at 19, I started gigging in local pubs and clubs just to get my voice out there, and then I started uploading content to social media and created my own page, mainly so my friends could see it.

“That’s how it all started just wanting my friends to see what I was doing.

The first one that broke 100,000 was my version of Chandelier by Sia, but the big one was the women’s viewpoint of Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me, which has just over two million views on You-Tube.

“It was then that I wanted to use the momentum made from those videos to start making my own music.”

After getting a management deal, Georgia released her debut EP, Love Languages, in 2016, which reached No 3 on the singer-songwriter iTunes Charts. Georgia followed that up with a headline showcase gig at the O2 Islington Academy, in London.

In 2018, she released her first official single I Don’t Want You Anymore, produced by one of the UK’s hottest talents Tre Jean-Marie, responsible for the sounds of Craig David, Jason Derulo and Wretch 32.

And she’s at it again with her latest release, Coca, which deals with the all-too-familiarly known honeymoon phase at the start of a relationship.

As Georgia tells me, the butterfly-fuelled exciting emotions that you can’t quite find the words to explain.

She says: “It’s really about how addictive the start of a relationship can be, but in a playful way.

“For this EP I worked with three different producers to produce four songs. I always want to stretch myself from one project to the next and that’s what I’ve done with this.

Working with lots of different people is only going to make me a better recording artist and that’s what this is all about.

Born and brought up in Colchester, Georgia admitted she has been singing before she could walk. After leaving the Gilberd, and determined to make a success out of her burgeoning new talent, Georgia went to the Tiffany Theatre College, in Southend, where she studied performing arts for three years.

Graduating at the age of 19, that’s when Georgia began posting her videos on Facebook, accompanying herself on the guitar, which she taught herself to play.

Coca came out last Friday, but when Georgia says the pre-sales were already going well.

“I’m really happy with the whole thing,” she tells me.

“Even the video, which I wanted to have this retro feel to it. It looks amazing, like it’s in LA in the Forties, but actually we shot the video in Watford, and we just got really lucky with the weather.

“The whole thing has been set to convey that message that I’m a strong woman who knows what I want, but at the same time I can have a bit of fun.”

She’s also a strong woman who is a pretty mean footballer, and what with the England Football Team doing so well (this was written before last night’s semi-final by the way), I ask whether the music would ever take a seat on the bench if the national team came calling.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen,” she laughs, “but no, it’s the music first, and then everything else I juggle around it.

"Fortunately I’m doing this all before the pre-season trials, so I don’t even know what football team I’ll be playing for.”

  • Coca is out now and Georgia has a Headline Show at the O2 Academy2 Islington, London, lined-up to promote the new EP taking place on Friday, August 30.
