MOCK chimneys have finally been installed as part of a controversial 37-home development in Frinton.

The imitation chimneys were included after Frinton Residents’ Association and councillors pushed for improved design details for the estate in Wittonwood Road.

Alan Eldret, chairman of the association, welcomed a number of recent upgrades to the estate, which was mostly completed almost 18-months, after concerns were raised with the developer.

Councillor Nick Turner welcomed the idea of installing the chimneys, but critiqued the way the additions look.

But nearby resident John Hall said there was no need for them.

“They serve no practical purpose,” he said.

A spokesman for Persimmon Homes said: “The construction of the chimneys form part of the approved planning drawings.”
