STANWAY Rovers are relishing the opportunity to showcase their new-look pitch in a high-profile friendly.

The club have splashed out £15,000 on their playing surface and it will be used for the first time in tomorrow’s pre-season contest between Chelmsford City and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Rovers were asked to host the game because the Clarets’ pitch is not yet ready for use, at the Melbourne Stadium.

And director of football Angelo Harrop believes it a great opportunity to showcase the improvements that have taken place at The Hawthorns.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Chelmsford and Dagenham for their pre-season game tomorrow night,” he told the Gazette.

“Being asked to host the game at our ground shows the hard work we’ve been putting in off the pitch is being noticed.

“The club have spent around £15,000 on the pitch during the close season and are delighted to have the chance to showcase our brand new playing surface in such a high-standard match.”

Harrop (pictured right) is expecting a bumper crowd and fantastic atmosphere.

Former Football League side Dagenham play in the National League while City are in National League South.

“We’re expecting a fantastic crowd and are looking to provide both teams and fans with a great experience,” he said.

“Our club is moving forward on and off the pitch.

“We have a new under-18s squad, a reserve team and our new-look first team, not to mention our pitch renovation and ground works.

“Everything’s in place for the club to move forward and there are exciting times ahead for everyone involved.”

Admission is £6 for adults and £4 for concessions. Under-12s are free.

Kick-off is at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, Stanway are hosting a fun day at their ground on Saturday, in association with Sports Coaching Specialists.

Highlights will include an exhibition match, live music and a magician. The fun day gets underway at 12pm, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
