Police have issued an e-fit in connection with a distraction burglary in Basildon involving an elderly woman.

A woman aged in her 70s reported that at around 3.30pm on Thursday June 13, a man knocked at her house in Gordon Road and began discussing ground works at her home.

Two other men then entered and searched around her home before leaving with thousands of pounds.

The woman reported that they were wearing smart looking uniform and drove a white can.

DC Natalie Backhouse, of Basildon CID, said: “These men were callous and distracted an elderly woman at her front door in order to search her home.

“She trusted what they were saying was genuine and later discovered they had taken thousands of pounds of hard earned cash.

“We would like to hear from anyone who spotted men acting suspiciously in the area or have experienced similar calls. We’d also like to hear from anyone with information and dash cam.”

Anyone with any information should call Basildon CID on 101 quoting crime reference 42/93738/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
