A man has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after a seafront crash.

A red Hyundai IX20 and a red Mini were involved in the crash in Eastern Esplanade, Southend at 12.05pm yesterday.

The passenger of the Mini, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

He remains in serious but stable condition.

A 21-year-old woman from Southend, who was driving the car, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and on suspicion of being unfit through drink or drugs.

The two occupants of the Hyundai were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious.

It is believed that the red Mini has been travelling in the direction of Shoeburyness, whilst the Hyundai was driving towards London.

Any witnesses, or anyone who may have dash cam or CCTV footage which could assist with the investigation, is asked to call the Chigwell Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting incident 481 of 22 July.
