Armed police rushed to Station Avenue, Rayleigh, after receiving reports that shots had been fired.
Police received the call shortly after 8pm yesterday (August 6), and swiftly rushed to the scene. Three men were seen in a dark coloured car, with one of them carrying what appeared to be a gun.
A police cordon was reported to have been put in place, alongside forensics who were searching the area with torches.
Fortunately, it's believed that there is no wider threat to the public, and police haven't received reports of anyone being injured.
A spokesperson from Essex Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses following an incident in Rayleigh this evening, Tuesday 6 August.
"We ask anyone who saw what happened or has any information to please speak to them, or call Southend CID on 101, quoting incident 1121 of yesterday's date.
"You can also call the Crimestoppers charity 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use the anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org."
