A woman has been talked down from a ledge at the car park at Southend's Victoria Shopping Centre.
Pictures sent to the Echo show a woman sitting on a ledge roughly three floors up.
Police were on the scene and residents have reported a police negotiator was attempting to talk the woman down.
The woman has now been brought to safety and is receiving care.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called at around 1.35pm, Friday 16 August, concerning the welfare of a woman in Chichester Road, Southend.
"We received information that a woman was on the roof of a building, Chichester Road was closed whilst officers attended.
"The woman has now been brought to safety, she is receiving care and support from care from health professionals."
