Four teenagers have been arrested after reports that a gun was seen in a popular park. 

Police descended on the park, between Hathaway Road and Wallace Road, Grays, at6 roughly 5.45pm last night. 

A weapon has been recovered and police are carrying out tests to establish whether it is a real or imitation firearm. 

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports that a firearm had been seen in a park between Hathaway Road and Wallace Road, Grays, shortly before 5.45pm on Thursday 29 August.

“Firearms officers attended and the police helicopter was dispatched to assist with our search.

“One weapon has been recovered and tests are ongoing to establish if the firearm are real or imitation.

“Four teenage boys have been arrested and will be taken to custody for questioning."
