A school has been forced to close early due to a "gas pressure issue".

The Billericay School posted on Facebook shortly before lunchtime today to tell parents that students would be sent home at 1.15pm.

The gas pressue issue, in the school kitchen, meant the school was unable to provide hot lunches.

Alternative buses have been put on to help students travel home.

The post read: "Dear Parent/Carer

Re: URGENT SCHOOL CLOSURE

"We are currently experiencing a gas pressure issue to the school kitchen, which means that we are unable to provide school lunch to students.

"Unfortunately, as a result of this we have no choice but to close the school at 1.15pm today. Please be advised that all students who receive free school meals will be provided with a cold lunch option before leaving.

"Alterations have been made to the NIBS bus service accordingly and students will be able to board the buses from 1.15 pm. Any child that is unable to get home is welcome to wait in the RBLC which will be supervised by staff.

"We are hoping that this issue will be resolved by the end of today but we would ask you to monitor the school website and social media platforms for further updates.

"I apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation."
