FUNDRAISERS from Maldon are staging a charity fair at England’s tallest Tudor gatehouse.

Volunteers from the Maldon committee of Action Medical Research are hosting the fair at Layer Marney Tower.

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide charity which funds research to tackle diseases that affect many children.

It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952, including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing ultrasound and testing the rubella vaccine.

It is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, epilepsy, asthma, cerebral palsy and brain cancer.

The fair will feature more than 30 stalls selling gifts, including the Flying Duck, who sell original toys, Veritas Gifts, selling leather and silver goods, cookware specialists Wellbake, Imogen’s Luxuries’ scents for the home and Pinkster Gin.

Action Medical Research’s Tracy Stratford said: “We are so very grateful to the Maldon committee of volunteers for organising this annual event for Action.

“Hundreds of people attend every year to either look for unique gifts for themselves, socialise with friends, or start their Christmas shopping.”

The fair is on Tuesday, October 1, from 10am.

Admission costs £5, including tea and biscuits.
