FRINTON Golf Club challenged visitors Clacton in the annual Bentley Cup, on Saturday.

The weather was perfect – a sunny, autumnal day with a light breeze.

Clacton put up a good fight but, in the end, Frinton came out on top, winning the fourball better ball matchplay event 7½-4½.

The ladies played a greensomes competition on Tuesday.

It was a full field, with 18 pairs finishing, and Claire Vaughan and Angela Low had another good day, winning with 34 points. Claire’s mother, Angela, and her playing partner, Deborah Tanner, were just behind with 33 points.

Liz Lewis and Viv Stansfield were in third place on countback, with 31 points.

It was an even fuller field for the last Friday of the month stableford, open to all Havers Course members.

Hamish Stubbs and Liam Wilson both finished with 39 points, with Stubbs victorious on countback.

Mark Doyle was third with 37.

Last Thursday was a memorable occasion when 15 past and present lady captains enjoyed golf and lunch together.

The event was a ten-hole stableford, with immediate past captain Marilyn Clarke winning with 23 points, followed by Lynda Boland, the present captain, in second.

Ginny Richardson finished third.

Edna Giles presented the trophy and continued her tradition of treating everyone to drinks and wine with the meal.
