A MARRIED City lawyer who romped with a junior colleague after a boozy night out said he was ‘disappointed’ after being ordered to pay £235,000 in fines and costs.

Ryan Beckwith was not struck off the solicitor’s register at the hearing but did resign from his job as partner at Freshfields Bruckhause Deringer LLP.

The 41-year-old, from Basildon, was accused of groping the woman in a taxi while she was “exceptionally drunk” after a boozy works do.

She also claimed she woke naked in bed to find Mr Beckwith telling her she had “nice t*ts” and asking for a condom before leaving after a call from his wife at 4am on July 2, 2016.

The dad-of-one also denied kissing the woman after an earlier “lavish” works bash at the world famous restaurant in Oxfordshire a few months prior to the other incident.

A tribunal ruled in the woman’s favour, not on whether she had consented, but only that it was inappropriate for Mr Beckwith to engage in sexual activity with a junior colleague who was intoxicated and had impaired judgment.

Following the ruling, Mr Beckwith gave a brief statement through his solicitor, Nick Brett, which said: “Mr Beckwith is disappointed with the finding of the tribunal. He is presently taking advice on the outcome and it would not be appropriate for him to comment further at this stage.”

After the panel announced its decision Beckwith put his arm around a woman who burst into tears by his side before being quickly ushered into a side room by his legal team.

Mr Beckwith told the tribunal he is sometimes known as Del Boy to his colleagues because of his Essex accent and his taste for piña coladas.
