STANWAY ROVERS, FC CLACTON and WIVENHOE TOWN enjoyed eye-catching victories on a goal-laden weekend of Thurlow Nunn League action.

The first two romped to victory on their travels, both in the premier division.

Stanway are on fire right now and there was no stopping them in Friday's derby at BRANTHAM ATHLETIC, easing to a 4-0 success.

Dan Cunningham, Charlie Gilbert, Milo Grimes and Jamie Shaw hit their goals and it was a result that hoisted Rovers up to second in the table, before dropping to third the following day, as a result of Wroxham's 3-0 victory at Whitton United.

Clacton also enjoyed success on their travels, making a long trek to Norfolk and beating Swaffham Town 3-1.

The Seasiders did all the hard work in the first half, scoring three goals, having two disallowed and also hitting the woodwork.

Their complete domination started in the fifth minute, when Mekhi McKenzie headed home Kyelan Marvell's corner.

Jake Clowsley notched from close range after an inviting left-wing cross from Billy Wales, following a sublime pass from Harry McDonald.

Chris Ribchester then made it three with a towering header from Zach Smith-Walters' cross.

Swaffham pulled one back after the break but it was still a great response from the Seasiders, after losing their previous two.

Wivenhoe were also in Friday night action and the Dragons climbed to second in first division south - third after Saturday's matches - after a tremendous 5-1 victory against May and Baker.

Dean Merrett (two), Tim Dennis, Matt Tapley and Francisco Rodriguez were on target at the Blackstone Stadium.

Wivenhoe were leapfrogged into second place by LITTLE OAKLEY, who ran out convincing 5-2 winners at home to Barkingside.

They had to come from behind but finished comfortable winners thanks to two goals from Greg Rodger and strikes from Shaun Kioussis, Lewis Wood and Luke Mayhew.

Unfortunately, it was not such a good day for first division south trio HARWICH AND PARKESTON, HALSTEAD TOWN and HOLLAND FC.

The Shrimpers suffered a 3-2 defeat at Burnham Ramblers, following goals from Harry Banner and a deflected shot from Joe Knight, while Holland went down 4-2 at Wormley Rovers.

It was a particularly galling day for Halstead, who squandered a two-goal lead before losing 3-2 at home to Benfleet.

Ricky Gardner's second-minute penalty and another from Kane Munday appeared to set them on the road to victory but it wasn't to be on a disappointing afternoon at the Milbank Stadium.

COGGESHALL UNITED and BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT RESERVES had no game on Saturday.

So there were four contenders for our star performance award this week - Stanway, Clacton, Wivenhoe and Oakley.

It's a tough one to call as all had excellent victories.

However, Stanway's was the most eye-catching - a surprisingly one-sided derby success from a fixture that is usually close and hard-fought. A clean sheet was the cherry on the cake.
