A FOOTBALL club has been forced to cancel a game today after vandals broke in and damaged the pitch.

Billericay Town Football Club on Blunts Wall Road had vandals break onto the field last night by cutting padlocks and driving cars onto the field.

The club has stated the incident has been reported to the police.

In a statement it said: "We are sad to report that, following a break-in during the early hours of Saturday morning, our pitch has sustained damage from two vehicles that were driven around the playing surface.

"That, coupled with the recent heavy rain means today's game has been postponed.

"The incident has been reported to the police and CCTV footage has been obtained.

"The pitch damage will be swiftly rectified. The BTFC family is bigger than incidents of this nature."
