Son’s plea to bring dad home from Thai hospital

Brian Tate, from Leigh is being cared for by Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, after suffering the stroke.

Now his son Ricky, also from Leigh, is working to get him home, he says, without any help from the British Embassy.

Mr Tate, 69, did not have any medical insurance when he suffered the injury, in September.

Son Ricky said: “He had a stroke in early September and it was a major blood clot on the brain.

“It’s left him paralysed down the left hand side of his body.

“I then got messages at the end of September with people telling me what happened.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard he’d suffered a stroke.”

The 46-year-old added: “We’ve been going back and forth with the British Embassy and the hospital but it’s so difficult to find out what’s happening.

“He developed these horrific bedsores which are large enough to fit two fists in.

“It’s almost like a flesh eating bug; I’ve never seen anything like it.

“I’ve been sending over questions to the Embassy to answer and it’s taking weeks, I’ve now been waiting about three weeks for answers.

“The Embassy is slow and delayed with everything.”

Mr Tate fears the delays could cost his father his life and he has voice concerns over the likelihood of his dad contracting Sepsis due to the severe bedsores.

He has slammed the hospital for not caring for his father correctly.

Mr Tate said: “I feel abandoned by the Embassy as they are not helping at all.

“The hospital will not talk to me either so it’s so hard to know what’s happening.

“I am in contact with a few friends my father made in Thailand.”

He added: “It’s causing unbelievable stress to me and my family.

“I’ve got to do what I have got to do for him to make sure that he is safe and OK.

“We are fundraising to help bring him home and care for him when he’s home.”

Both the Embassy and the hospital were contact for comment but no responses were received.
