A MUM who has lung and congenital heart disease aged just 38 is taking part in a worldwide fundraiser for the British Lung Foundation.

Amanda-Jane Freemantle, 38, developed lung disease following a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis after she gave birth to son Callum in 2010.

She Amanda-Jane, from Leigh, also has congenital heart disease which she has grown up with all her life after having open-heart surgery at just three months old.

She was later diagnosed with fibromyalgia and has had to use a mobility scooter for the past year, due to breathlessness and pain from the arthritis.

She told the Echo: “The scooter has given me the independence I need to be able to get around and take my nine-year-old son to the park and things like that.

“He takes it all in his stride and loves getting on the scooter with me.

“He also goes to a young carers club.

“I used to be a nursery nurse before I became ill.

“I worked for six months in the French Alps and six months in the south of France.”

Since she was a child, Amanda-Jane, from Leigh, has been under the care of the Royal Brompton Hospital, in London - a specialist heart and lung hospital.

The money she hopes to raise from #TheBigBreakfast event will go

the Royal Brompton Hospital and the British Lung Foundation towards vital research.

Amanda-Jane will be holding her big breakfast event at Kids Kingdom, Garons Park, Eastern Avenue, on Thursday, November 14, from 10am until 12pm.

She will have plenty of bacon and sausage breakfast rolls on offer and ample tea and coffee.

There will also be a Body Shop stall and a tombola with lots of prizes to be won.

Amanda-Jane added: “I’ve run quite a lot of fundraisers for British Lung Foundation in the past and my friends did a sky dive for them a couple of months ago.

“I’ll be organising another one next year.

“From going to Royal Brompton Hospital, I have met so many adults and children that have lung-related health conditions and there is still so much research on all the different lung-related issues that needs to be done, so I want to raise as much money as possible for the British Lung Foundation and would really welcome any support.”
