Police have closed a major road linking Braintree and Witham following a serious crash. 

Witham Road in Black Notley is shut off to all traffic after a collision involving a bus occured some time after 10am this morning. 

Drivers were forced to turn around and divert through Buck Hill. 

Two people have been taken to hospital as a result of the crash. 

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision in Witham Road, Black Notely at around 10.30am today (Tuesday 19 November).


"We attended and found a car and a bus which had been in collision.
"A passenger in the bus has been flown to hospital with chest injuries while a passenger in the car was taken to hospital for treatment on facial injuries.


"Our enquiries are ongoing."

Braintree and Witham Times:

Officers at the scene say the road is set to be closed for at least three hours near to the junction with Notley Road and Buck Hill.

An air ambulance is understood to have been called to the incident and landed in Black Notley playing field.

A spokesman from East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 10.26am with reports of a collision near Notley Road, Braintree.

"We sent the Hazardous area Response Team, two ambulances, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"One patient was taken to Broomfield Hospital and a second patient was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital by air ambulance."

A Stephensons bus was also involved with the crash.

Fire and rescue teams also attended the scene.

A spokesperson from Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, crews reported that a person was trapped in their vehicle and worked to release the casualty by 11.36am. 

"The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

The crash happened just hours after another serious collision on the same stretch of road which saw a motorcylist rushed to hospital.
