AN ELDERLY woman has suffered life-changing injuries after a crash.

Police were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in Whitmore Way, Basildon at around 6.55am this morning.

A member of staff from the Texaco petrol station, told the Echo that the petrol station was forced to close for two hours after the accident occured at the entrance to the garage.

Drivers reported seeing blood on the road.

A spokesman said: "We attended and found a woman in her 70s injured.

"She has been taken to hospital for treatment on a potentially life-changing leg injury.

"Our enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information or CCTV and dash came footage should call police on 101 quoting incident 170 of November 22 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A spokesman for the ambulance service, said: "We were called at 6.49am with reports of a crash in Whitmore Way, Basildon.

"We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"One woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital by land ambulance."
