A man has been rushed to hospital after a hit-and-run crash. 

Two men have now been arrested in relation to the incident. 

A 20-year-old from Brentwood and a 32-year-old from Hullbridge, were arrested after the crash on Miles Gray Road, Basildon, which left a man in his 50's in hospital with serious injuries.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene, where an air ambulance was required to land nearby.

The man was seen at the scene at the side of the road, and had an oxygen mask immediately placed over his face.

The air ambulance was not required to take him to hospital.

Members of staff at Relay, a business on Miles Gray Road, stated that staff were told to shut the gates to the car park so that the helicopter could land safely.

It has also been reported that several people from nearby businesses ran to the aid of the man, until emergency services arrived.

One police vehicle and one ambulance was also seen at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the East of England ambulance service stated that the man was taken to hospital. She said: “We were called at 12.13pm with reports of a collision in Miles Gray Road, Basildon.

“We sent one ambulance and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

“One man was taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital by land ambulance.”
