Southend Council are urging those who are at risk of flu to have their free jab as soon as possible.

Flu can be serious for those with under developed or compromised immune systems, so getting protected is the best form of defence.

Those who are considered to be most at risk include those aged over 65, primary school children, adults with underlying medical conditions and pregnant women.

Southend Council are urging anyone who falls into any of these groups that hasn't had their free flu vaccination, or are a parent or carer for someone who is eligible, to contact their GP, health visitor or school office.

Frontline healthcare workers are also being encouraged to get the vaccination, as protection for their patients and people they care for.

Health visitors, social care workers and other members of staff employed by Southend Council who interact personally with residents have been offered a free vaccine.

Krishna Ramkhelawon, Interim Director of Public Health at Southend Council, said: “The best defence against the flu is to be vaccinated and we strongly urge all patients in at-risk groups to get vaccinated and for parents to ensure their young children receive their vaccine as soon as possible.”
