A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital with 'serious' head injuries following a crash in Horwich.

Police closed Victoria Road, between Brooklands Road and Ramsbottom Road following the collision at around 3.30pm yesterday.

Paramedics treated the woman - believed to be in her 70s - for serious injuries to her head, arm and pelvis before she was taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

The road remained shut in both directions for more than an hour while she was treated.

A spokesman for the ambulance service told The Bolton News: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

“We had a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance on the scene.

“We treated a female patient for injuries to her arm, her pelvic area and her head.

"She has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."

The street was closed in both directions and drivers were advised to seek an alternative route as traffic in the area slowed.
