Anyone who drives down Broad Road in rush hour will be all too accustomed with queuing cars and endless traffic.

The thought of an extra 1,000 homes being built along the road will terrify many.

Though there are clear benefits to the scheme, a rethink is clearly needed when it comes to the surrounding roads, which will bear the brunt of the extra vehicles brought in by the new development.

Planning officers have recommended the plans be approved but councillors would do well to listen to the concerns raised about the current proposals and ask for an alternative to be found when it comes to access roads.

It would be too easy just to give the go-ahead without looking into what are very obvious and important fears.
