THE Blockheads are in a league of their own. Eccentric and cocky, the lovable British rogues shot to fame after teaming up with Ian Dury.

Influenced by both funk and punk, the dream team came up with anthems like Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick. And with an army of famous fans behind them, including Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams, it's clear to see the band has inspired several different generations.

Dury may no longer be with us but The Blockheads still are - and they're celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Over the next couple of months, they will be joining forces with comic Phill Jupitus to mark the special occasion and the mini-tour promises to be an absolute blast.

The Leigh comedian, who was a huge fan of both the late Ian Dury and The Blockheads, was thrilled to be invited to join the band. And he can't wait to carry out his Dury Duty' so close to home either, in Westcliff.

"I couldn't refuse the men who had provided much of the soundtrack to my teenage years," Phill says. "It's good fun, keeping an old mate's seat warm but I still, and always will, miss him to bits.

"I am looking forward to the 30th anniversary tour though as I'm sure we will be playing a lot of tunes that haven't been aired in a long time. I will also get to share a stage for an actual tour with the best band on the planet."

If you miss the chance to see the band in Westcliff this month, book tickets for their concert at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon next April.
