Tory leaders are asking Southend Council to come up with a plan to mark Brexit day next week.
The calls from councillors Mark Flewitt and Alex Bright, have prompted a debate on the Echo's Facebook page.
Here are your views as posted on our Facebook page.
Deborah Fishburn: You don't celebrate a suicide.
Adam Whitehead: Once Southend brings itself to a respectable place with a thriving town centre, not a bunch of closed down stores, then we can celebrate. Until then, what’s the point of celebrating something which will probably cause more businesses to close and people to fall into poverty?
Si Reed: Tories demand a celebration...but not actually spending money to help the area when they were in charge of the council. Why don't they start a gofundme page?
Vicki Marven: I'm looking forward to it. I'll be celebrating at home and will definitely be opening a bottle of British bubbly!
Hazel Denton: Celebrate by doing all the potholes.
Ronnie Inselaffe: I shall be waving fair well to you all whilst I have a beer on Germany's side of the North Sea.
Rhys Clark: Get the party poppers out!
Ian Roake: What is there to celebrate?
