A CHANCE for young musicians and songwriters to take part in a week long songwriters’ lab during the Easter holiday, is taking place.

The SoSlam Young Musicians group is holding the initiative in collaboration with Metal arts organisation, aimed at 12 – 18 year olds who are writing their own material and living in the borough of Southend.

The deadline to apply is March, 2, at 5pm, via metalculture.com/event/young-songwriters-lab-2020

The event will take place from Tuesday April 14 until Saturday April 18, from 10am until 5pm every day, at the Metal base at Chalkwell Hall in Chalkwell Park, Westcliff.
It is is free to attend.

Up to 14 young musicians who create their own original material will be given the opportunity to work with each other alongside industry professionals for the five days, getting the chance to “play existing work, attend workshops with producers, musicians and promoters, and have the time to experiment with different ways of creating and writing new music for live performance and studio recording”.
The week will include vocal coaching, performance technique (on stage and on video), and advice about working in a recording studio.
They will take part in improvisation and jam sessions, write new material and learn alongside their peer group.

Successful musicians will be notified by Monday March 9.

SoSlam founder Iain Keenan, said: “The Young Musicians Songwriting Lab gives aspiring musicians the opportunity to learn and craft their songwriting skills and network with like-minded young people.
“The opportunities the lab provides extend far beyond the actual week, as the friendships and connections they make help them to plug into the vibrant local music scene and become a part of it.”

All selected musicians must be able to attend every day.
