DOWN Memory Lane this week looks at what was once one of Thurrock’s oldest Farmhouses at Oak farm, Corringham, originally built in the 17th Century.

It once stood on the boundaries of Three Parishes, Thames Haven, Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope, this meant that the Kitchen was in Corringham and the Parlour on the West side was in Stanford-leHope!

During its demolition in 1963 a George II farthing coin dated 1732 was found under the floorboards as well as a Victorian letter about cress being sent to Finsbury Square in London.

Down Memory Lane is written by Andrew Burt, Librarian & Local Studies Officer Thurrock Libraries.
