FEARS have been raised of suspected Coronavirus cases after suited medics rushed a pair to hospital.

An adult and child were rushed to Basildon Hospital after medics in protective suits were called to Ascot Grove, Basildon, at about 5.15pm on Wednesday.

Pictures showed two members of ambulance staff were wearing protective clothing as they approached the home.

When questioned on the matter by the Echo, the ambulance service said it was a matter for Public Health England, but the authority is not commenting on individual incidents.

It came as there were two new confirmed cases in the UK yesterday. One was in Liverpool while the other patient was taken to the Royal Free Hospital, in London.

Community leaders say there is need for concern but within the proper context.

Andrew Baggott, leader of the Basildon Tories said: “My thoughts are with those involved at this time.

“These sort of incidents are worrying for residents. The response shows the ambulance service is taking this incident very seriously.”

Wickford Independent David Harrison, chairman of Basildon Council’s neighbourhoods and public spaces committee, said: “I understand people being worried about this but we must look at it within the context.

“People get the flu all the time, and we are told it’s similar in terms of symptoms and we do not panic when we get that.”

He added: “This incident and response will cause concern. We must be careful and take the precautions but must not panic and overreact.

“It seems like these people in this case have taken good advice and done the right thing.”

“It looks like they called the authorities who attended and collected the patients.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We were called by 111 at 3.36pm with reports that a child and an adult were feeling unwell in Ascot Grove, Basildon. We sent an ambulance and an officer.”
