Jewellery worth thousands of pounds was stolen from homes during two burglaries.

The first incident occurred in Janmead, Witham between 10am and 7pm on Wednesday 26 February.

Watches and jewellery were taken from the property.

Then, on Sunday 8 March, a house in Avenue Road was broken into and a four-figure sum of jewellery was taken.

One of the men has been described as being white, of stocky build, and around 5ft 10ins tall. He had missing front teeth and short black curly hair and was wearing a bomber jacket. He may have spoken with a northern accent.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We understand from our enquiries that there have been door-to-door salesman in the area recently, with two men selling tea towels or lookin for other forms of work.

“We believe he was joined by a man who was working the opposite side of the street to him, who also had black hair and was of a similar height and build.”

Anyone with information should call Braintree CID on 101 with any information quoting the crime reference number 42/31524/20 for the Janmead burglary and 42/37252/20 for the Avenue Road burglary.
