A HUGELY popular biking event in Southend has been cancelled due to concerns over coronavirus.
Southend Shakedown, a biking event on the seafront that was only resurrected last year, will not be taking place in April.
It was due to be held on April 13 over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. However, due to the growing concern of the Covid-19 spread in the UK the decision has been made to cancel the event for this year.
In a statement the organisers said: "It is with much regret that we have cancelled the Southend Shakedown 2020.
"We have a duty of care to both the general public and our volunteers, and so, in accordance with current government guidelines regarding Covid-19, we feel that the safety of all concerned is our top priority at this time.
"We are currently discussing holding a smaller event in the autumn, and we will be posting details about it once we have them.
"The Shakedown WILL be back for Easter 2021!
"Until then, please stay safe on and off the road."
