A BASILDON man stranded in Cyprus has managed to secure a flight home.

The Echo made an urgent appeal yesterday to help Jonty Edmondson, who was stuck in Cyprus after his flights were cancelled.

The 20-year-old had flown out to the country at the start of March before the coronavirus pandemic worsened and was left with no means to get home.

After following Foreign Office advice he secured a flight for Saturday which was cancelled at the last minute, leaving him stranded with little money or anywhere to stay.

Following the appeal online and in print, the Echo received several responses from people in Cyprus and the UK offering to help Mr Edmondson, who is also a father.

This resulted in him being taken in by a family near to Paphos Airport, where he was stranded.

Mr Edmondson informed the Echo that he has secured another flight to the UK arranged via easyJet and the British Embassy which is set to depart next Monday.

He said the airline and embassy were coordinating emergency flights to get stranded British citizens home as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Mr Edmondson, along with the Echo, would like to thank all readers who responded to the appeal offering him assistance.
