WARM tributes have been paid to a father of three described as a "Dalton legend".

Kit Bibby, who has died aged 73, has been remembered by the community for his sense of humour after he lost his battle with cancer.

Grandad Mr Bibby has been described as a "character" and was said to have frequented a number of Dalton’s pubs making people laugh.

Offering his tribute to Mr Bibby, Dalton resident Dave Taylor said: “He was one of Dalton’s best loved characters.

“He was loved by many and was a true gent and another Dalton legend.

“We are going to all miss him.

“He was some character. You could actually write a book on him.

“My deepest sympathy goes out to all his family and friends.

“He will be missed by so many.

“Sad times have just got a little more sadder.”

Those who knew Mr Bibby said they often talked him in Dalton pubs including the Wellington and the Masons Arms.

Wendy Maddox, a Dalton councillor, said: “He was very well know to everyone in Dalton.

“He was often going around the town in his wheelchair.

“He used to go round the pubs and tell jokes and speak to everybody.

“He had a great sense of humour.

“He will certainly be missed. He’s another one of Dalton’s characters who we’ve lost.”

Mr Bibby was born in Hoyland in Yorkshire before moving to Dalton.

One of six children, he lived with his family in Rawlinson Street.

A grandad of two, he previously worked on railway lines and as a road sweeper.

He is survived by his children Angela, Peter and Pamela.
