BASILDON town centre is painting a picture of adherence during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Government is continuing to urge people to stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus and has closed all non-essential shops.

Photographer, and owner of POP Photography, Tom Bissell, 35, took some powerful shots of the town centre on Thursday afternoon, which would usually be full of shoppers, market stalls, and a general hustle and bustle atmosphere.

Even the roads appeared to be free of cars.

St Martin’s Square was totally deserted, and most of the high street was too, other than a few people here and there.

Snapper Tom said: “It’s very interesting to see such a quiet town centre, which is normally bustling with life even on cloudy days.

“With the sun shining, and weather rather clear, one would expect a vast public presence in what has mostly been a popular place to shop and to socialise.

“I liked seeing most people following the Government’s guidelines on staying safe, isolating, and not travelling together in large groups.

“Let us hope this business is all over sooner rather than later, and that the country – indeed, the world – can return to a more normal state after this frankly tragic virus outbreak.”
