A MAN has been arrested for burglary after a police chase ended in a serious crash.
Police arrested the 21-year-old man from Benfleet on Sunday.
Officers signalled to a vehicle to stop at around 11.55pm, but the car drove off and crashed in Rayleigh Road, Benfleet, before the driver was arrested in a nearby garden following a short chase.
His arrest was in connection to a reported burglary in Stanford-le-Hope the same day.
Police seized a large knife and a number of wraps of drugs.
The man has been released under investigation on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop when directed, possession of an offensive weapon, driving with no insurance, drug driving and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
Two men, 21, both from Leigh, were previously arrested in connection with the burglary investigation and they have been released on bail until Friday May 1.
