A MAN has been rushed to hospital after he was stabbed in the stomach in Southend.

Police were called to the junction of Victoria Avenue and Queensway shortly before 3.20pm today (Saturday, May 2) amid reports of an assault.

They arrived to find a man with a single stab wound to his abdomen.

The victim was taken to hospital soon after but police say his injury is not though to be life-threatening.

A 55-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing GBH with intent and possession of a knife and he is currently in custody.

A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for information following an assault in Southend.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
