A TEENAGER is stranded on a cruise ship in the Philippines with living conditions worsening and food supplies dwindling as the coronavirus crisis deepens.

Hannah Smith, 19, from Canvey, is stuck onboard the Carnival Spirit ship off the coast of the Philippines, and hasn’t set foot on land since March 14.

Echo:

Hannah, who was working in the ship’s spa until passengers disembarked because of the Covid-19 crisis, is desperate to be re-united with her worried family who are “beside themselves”.

Mum Hayley, 58, has pleaded for help from the Foreign Office and Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris in an effort to get her daughter home.

Hayley described how Hannah and her family are coping with her being 10,000 kilometres away, saying: “Some days she’s OK but others she’s really struggling.

“She doesn’t know anything at all, she hates not knowing when she can get off.

“We’re all missing her very much.

“We’re desperate for her to come home, we need her home.

“Her grandparents are beside themselves with worry.

“The Government has forgotten about cruise ship staff completely it seems.

“I’ve contacted our MP Rebecca Harris to ask her for help. We really need it.”

Hayley said Hannah’s ship was one of 50 nearby which are stranded.

Her boat was kicked out of Australian waters on April 11 as the world tried to contain Covid-19.

A spokesman from the Foreign Office stressed it was working to help British nationals stranded overseas.

She said: “We are doing everything we can to help British crew onboard cruise ships around the world, but this is a complex challenge during an unprecedented crisis.

“We are in direct contact with all of the main cruise ship operators, as well as with many crew members and their families.

“We will continue to support operators to ensure the welfare and safety of British crew.”

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, added: "Since Hannah's mum contacted my office on Friday, I have been in touch with the Foreign Office in order to assist Hannah's return home back to Canvey.

"Right now, it is estimated over one point three million people have already managed to return to the UK thanks to the £75 million partnership between the Government and airlines, the Foreign Office have now brought back more than 19,000 people on 93 charter flights from different countries.

"If anyone else from Castle Point is currently abroad and struggling to get back to the UK, please get in touch with my office via rebecca.harris.mp@parliament.uk."
