RED ARROW jets soared across south Essex today to mark VE Day celebrations.

The beloved Royal Air Force Red Arrows flew across the East of England to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

On May 8, 1945, exactly 75 years ago, Great Britain and the rest of the Allied forces celebrated the defeat of the Nazi regime after Germany signed its unconditional surrender on May 7.

The next day, May 8, Prime Minister Winston Churchill declared it was a day of celebration, where people came out into the streets to dance, sing, eat and party.

Many residents of Basildon spotted the Red Arrows flying over the town earlier this morning.
