Temperatures are set to soar over the Bank Holiday weekend.

With highs of 23 degrees in Southend on Bank Holiday Monday and 22 on Sunday, suncream will be needed for those outside.

A cooler Saturday will see highs of 19 but will still give the opportunity to have a BBQ in the back garden.

Despite the weather set fair for the days ahead, Southend Council have urged visitors to think twice before visiting the seafront this weekend.

The council is also backing a campaign by train companies and Rochford and Southend East MP, James Duddridge to ‘Don’t travel, stay local'.

Ian Gilbert, the leader of Southend Council, and Martin Terry, councillor for responsible have both urged those with seafront sunbathing plans to think twice.
